Leaving from Parakai, you will spend a relaxing three hours on the Kewpie Too exploring the tranquil rivers of the Kaipara River Valley. You will view the sites of early kauri mills and bush camps now long gone while listening to the informative commentary, and also visit the beautiful bush reserve on the Kaukapakapa River where young kauri, kowhai and totara, among others, grow sheer from the waters edge along with a shag colony and other wildlife nesting on the river.

  The Great West Coast Sand Safari (8 hrs)

On demand for your club or group.

A unique cruise from Shelly Beach through the historic Kaipara Harbour to the old marine station at Pouto Point. During your cruise we visit bays and inlets only accessible by boat, and an informative commentary is given on the ecology and history of New Zealand's largest waterway.

On your arrival at Pouto Pount you will go ashore where you can explore the Pouto area or just relax and enjoy the solitude of this unique settlement.

You can take an additional option by joining our 4 wheel drive Sandcruiser Bus for a journey along the golden sands of New Zealand's longest driveable beach, walk to and visit an 1884 kauri lighthouse (quad bikes available for the ride to the lighthouse if required at $5 per person).

See amazing views of the Kaipara Bar and West Coast Beach, unique bird life, seals and the occasional whale or penguin. You can explore ancient buried shipwrecks, and beach comb amongst the remains of an ancient kauri forest (lignite). (Beach trip duration 2½ hours)

The Great Kaipara Adventure - Two Day Cruise

Dates 2010:

• Feb 6th & 7th, 27th & 28th
• March 6th & 7th, 27th & 28th

• May 8th & 9th

On this two-day cruise, which incorporates the West Coast Sand Safari you will cross the Kaipara to Pouto Point, then follow the Northern Wairoa River to Dargaville. You stay overnight Dargaville with hotel or motel options, where an excellent evening meal is provided along with a continental breakfast the following morning. On the second day you will take our Dune Bus [photo] along Ocean Beach (lunch provided) from Glinks Gully to the Kaipara Kauri Llighthouse, visiting buried shipwreck sites on the way, before rejoining the Kewpie Too for the return journey to Helensville.

The Great Kaipara Adventure - Three Day Cruise

Dates 2010

• March 9th, 10th & 11th

Day One: starting at Helensville travelling by coach for a one-hour journey to Port Albert. We depart Port Albert to the beautiful historic seaside village of Pahi [photo], which features the largest Morten Bay fig tree in Australasia. A visit to the Matakohe Kauri Museum and lunch at the 'Gum Diggers' tearooms. Day Two: We totally explore the great West Coast beach from Dargaville to Pouto Point. You will stay a second night in Dargaville, with dinner and breakfast again included. Day Three: final day from Dargaville through the harbour back to Helensville.
